Welcome

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Mississippi State University is always looking for new, enthusiastic graduate students. We currently have a diverse student body of 48 students from 12 countries: Bangladesh, China, Eritrea, Ghana, India, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and USA [for Fall 2018].  We have also had successful students from Cameroon, Turkey, Russia, etc.

The 17 research-active faculty offer research opportunities in Nuclear Physics, Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Astronomy and Computational Physics. 

We offer both MS and PhD programs.  The MS program has a thesis and a non-thesis option.  For the PhD program we offer both a Physics PhD (under the College of Arts & Sciences) and an Engineering/Applied Physics PhD (under the Bagley College of Engineering).
